The NJ class are the most recent narrow gauge locos in the AN fleet.
They began service on the Central Australia Railway, but following
standardisation of the Alice Springs line, all were moved to the Eyre
Peninsula, and are based at Port Lincoln. Work was carried out here to
allow them to travel at
higher speeds, although more recently, they seem to have had their
speed reduced
again.
NJ2 and NJ5 are now in Perth.
Named locomotives:
NJ1 | Ben Chifley |
Ben Chifley was a former loco driver who later became Prime
Minister.
