The 1460 class spent most of their time on freight services in the southeastern area of Queensland, being based in Brisbane, as well as on the north coast line. Some were also used to haul phosphate from the Phosphate Hill mine. Many were sold to New Zealand (with nine continuing on to ATN as the 2000 class), while a couple of others went to South Africa.
