The 1502's work similar trains to the 1460 class, but over a wider
area, and as well, hauled non-electrified suburban trains. So far, four
of the locos
have also been sold to NZ, and then returned as part of ATN's 2000 class.
Some have also been sold to Chile.
Most soldiered on in service, although they were all withdrawn at the
end
of 1999. A number are however stored serviceable, so they can be used
if
required.
Conversion of some of the class to standard gauge, using bogies from
Freightcorp's
49 class, is underway; these locos will be known as the 423 class.
423 class:
The 423 class is Queensland Rail's first conversion from narrow to
standard gauge. They will be used on lighter lines in NSW for
Interail's traffic.
