The 85 class are typically used for coal haulage to Lithgow, and they are based at Lithgow. However, all have been withdrawn in the last 12 months or so, due to the diesel-electric locos supposedly being now more economical to use than electric locos. Part of this reason is claimed to be an increase in the cost of electricity supplied to FreightCorp.
All of the class have now been sold to Silverton.
Most have been scrapped in early 2007, with a couple going into
preservation.
