The L class were used mostly on the Gippsland line to Traralgon,
electrified in the early-mid 1950's. Most the the classes work involved
haulage of brown
coal and briquettes from the Latrobe Valley to Melbourne. However, they
were
also used for passenger and other goods services.
Their withdrawl and scrapping followed traction motor failures, the
investigations of which found that the motors should not be run any
faster than 80km/h.
