The A class were the mainstay of Goldsworthy's fleet for around 25 years, but not long after the takeover by BHP, the latter considered them redundant, and all but one were transferred to Port Kembla to become the D46 class. Two locos were bought from Westrail (A6 and A9, not shown here) while others were undergoing accident repair.

Port Kembla - D46 class:
These locos are used for mainline work, to the nearby coal mines. However, they have reached the end of their lives at Port Kembla. Three are returning to WA, to South Spur Rail (with one to active service there).

South Spur Rail:
Some of the locos will be used in NSW by South Spur (as Momentum Rail).
