These locos were bought second-hand from the USA when Robe River
required more motive power. The engines were uprated from 3300 HP
(251E) to 3600 HP
(251F), and other items such as the radiators were also upgraded.
They were all rebuilt as part of the CM40-8M
class. The "new" 9417 was a C636 model.
