English Electric Locomotives

Model Numbers

English Electric spent around 20 years from 1956 in Australia as a locomotive manufacturer, being a subsidiary of the parent company in the UK. The UK firm had earlier built around 80 locos for Australian operators, while EE (Australia) built some 280 locos. Some other locos were built by government railways using EE engines etc. English Electric had just one factory, at Rocklea (Brisbane). Around 1970, the company changed its name to the General Electric Company of Australia (not to be confused with the American GE).
